The 70's Challenge!

Hi, you have arrived on my personal website, where I am showcasing some of my personal projects.

I recently retired from the dive centre 'Davy Jones Diving', just before my 70th birthday.

I decided to mark the event with three personal challenges ... to do a bike ride of 70 minutes, then to take 70 great photographs, and finally to do a scuba dive of 70 minutes.

Photo Challenge

Throughout July and August I have been snapping away with different cameras. I got my solid, heavy Nikon D5200 out of the cupboard and relearnt how to use it. An old fashioned digital SLR, it still gives great results. I used the smaller Canon G-16 for the underwater photos, but also for some of the land photos, and then a few pictures came from my Samsung smartphone or the Go-pro. The result is many fotos, which I have arranged into a collection of special types (underwater, macro, portrait), or into 'stories' where the pictures try to tell a particular story.

I completed the bike ride on my birthday! I rode from Meloneras to the baranco of Arguineguine, up to Cercados Espinos, then a couple of km further to the village of La fillipina, where I turned back to have luch at the end of a 72 minute ride at my favourite, Bar Miguel.

Strangely it was the 70-minute dive which was the most difficult to organise, because for safety it has to be done with a buddy. During the start of the period the weather was very poor, then I had a couple of weeks holiday, and it was not till the 2nd September that the combination of good conditions and suitable buddy came along. I did a 70 minute dive in el Cabrón from 'punta de la Monja' to the 'Table Top' with Gerry and Olie' with a maximum depth of 22m at one point.
